About MAR Updates

Upon dispensing from Lynx, "MAR Update" messages are sent to the interfaced EHR when all of the following are true.

  • The Lynx facility (site) has an EHR Orders interface to the practice EHR.

  • The EHR Orders interface has MAR Updates enabled.

  • The EHR is able to consume MAR Updates from Lynx.

  • The dispensed item was queued from an EHR Order.

About the MAR Update Status Report

It is recommended that practices using an EHR orders interface with MAR Updates enabled check for MAR Update errors on the Queue page.

MAR Update errors can occur when Lynx dispense details are sent over to the EHR (MAR Update), and something has changed in the EHR order since the treatment was queued in Lynx. This can cause the dispense details to be ignored by the EHR, which results in an error in the MAR Update Status Report.

Often, issues that affect the MAR, and even billing, can be caught and corrected before billing is generated for the day's treatments.

MAR Update errors exist for today

A message on the Queue page lets you know when MAR Update errors exist for today.

  1. To run the MAR Update Status Report for today, click the link labeled MAR Update errors exist for Today - click here.

Report Parameters

The MAR Update Status Report shows the outcome of each electronic MAR Update message sent from Lynx to the interfaced EHR, based on the selected Report Parameters.

  1. By launching the report from the Queue, the Report Parameters are automatically set to display errors for transactions done today.

    • The MAR Update Date is set to Today.

    • The Date of Service is set to Any.

  2. Check Show Errors Only, which hides transactions with Successful MAR Updates.

  3. Check Show Most Recent Update Only to display only the last MAR Update entry for each item dispensed. This makes the report less cluttered and easier to understand.

  4. Click RUN REPORT.

Viewing the MAR Update Status Report

Transactions for each patient are grouped together in the report.

The Date/Time stamp and Status of each MAR Update is listed above the details of the Dispense.

  1. To show the related transaction details and to help discover whether or not the MAR Update error was addressed, click Show Dispense Details on the right, above the Status column.

Understanding MAR Update errors

With the Dispense Details shown, you can identify how many transactions were performed for that EHR Order.

Status Column

The Status column gives a brief explanation of the MAR Update issue, depending on the error, practice workflow, and interfaced EHR.

For example, if a dispense was not queued from an EHR Order, the Status column shows, MAR Update not sent due to missing OrderID (see the line for Alteplase in the example image).

  1. Click Show Dispense Details to expand the report and show the transaction details.

  2. With the Dispense Details shown, the report now displays the user that Queued the dispense (click round arrow to see 2nd example image).

    • If failing to queue a dispense from the EHR order is a recurring issue for the user, the practice may choose to use this as a training opportunity to explain the importance of queuing from the EHR Orders tab.

Another Example MAR Update error

In this example image, the note in the Status column explains that the Dispense Details for the Cyanocobalamin were not written back to the EHR (iKnowMed), as the order was changed in iKnowMed after the dispense was queued in Lynx but before the dispense was completed.

The second transaction entry for the Cyanocobalamin is a return of the dispensed drug item and there is no follow-up dispense transaction.

More about MAR Update errors

When there is an Order ID mismatch, Lynx generates a MAR Update error to alert your practice of the issue.

  1. If researching MAR Update errors for transactions completed prior to today, run the MAR Update Status Report and include transactions performed on other days to help confirm whether or not other dispenses were completed for the patient treatment.

    • The MAR Update Date is set to Any.

    • The Date of Service is set to a specific date.
